Glow, Bloom or Something Else?

Glow, Bloom or Something Else?

Postby Shando » 13 Sep 2013, 02:23

Hi All,

Just playing around with some thoughts for my upcoming masterpiece :|

If I want to recreate this:

http://sdrv.ms/15VVo4i

When my base model looks like this:

http://sdrv.ms/1888BRw

What would be the best way???

I have come across a couple of "Glow" effects on the Ogre Wiki/Forum:

http://www.ogre3d.org/tikiwiki/Glow&structure=Cookbook
http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=27477

but not too sure how to implement in Skyline :?

Also, I know there is "Bloom" as a post-process, but I would expect that to be overkill for what I want??

Finally, the only other option I can think of is to place coloured lights, but that would mean using 100s of lights per Scene??

Thanks for any help.

Shando

PS: It was my fault regarding the models (used the wrong project location   )

yes this is possible.

we already have the glow compositor and also the bloom which can be located in the post FX panel in the bottom of the screen.
You need to add a glow technique to the basic material. The advanced material does not contain the glow technique yet.

here is a demo demostrating glow:

You can make any material work in skyline that would work with ogre.
But they may not be accepted by the material editor.

Looking at the image, you need the glow material sections to be separate from the main texture so you could make an advanced material of the main structure to get the best look, then use the glow technique on another material for the glow sections.

100's of lights in a scene, would kill skylines performance in Forward rendering mode, but if deferred works, then that would be possible i think :P. lol

lol, glad its fixed :D
