When importing Models they appear very Yellow

When importing Models they appear very Yellow

Hi All,

I have just imported several .3ds Models with Textures that look fine in Carrara 6, but look very Yellow in Skyline.

Below are .jpg files for what I'm seeing in Skyline, the Texture itself, and what I'm seeing in Carrara:

Model 1 in Skyline: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!372&authkey=!AOzfdEs0dVVR5pg
Model 1 Texture: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!374&authkey=!AIBjEDDi2Cy1APQ
Model 1 in Carrara: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!375&authkey=!AJ753h21tS_O024

Model 2 in Skyline: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!373&authkey=!APQ_FAj8w1Y0wcs
Model 2 Texture: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!371&authkey=!AI-ffuTnVWyixvs
Model 2 in Carrara: https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!376&authkey=!AEKexWBYGHH0BJE

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong??

Thanks

strange, we have never had that issue lol. :D

Is the Material upgraded to the advanced material?
It could be a diffuse color in the material that is the set to yellow?

Have you got the file and texture so we can test on our end to be more helpful.

Have you tried any other export formats.
We prefer to use .dae or .lwo for our exports, we haven't tried many .3ds.

Hi SolarPortal,

OK, the Texture is here https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!374&authkey=!AIBjEDDi2Cy1APQ

The Model is here https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=738BB67A6530C3EE!378&authkey=!AI_HulJXwL563ss

I have tried both .dae and .lwo but they fail on import and crash Skyline (both converted via Accutrans from .3ds model). As you suggest, there's probably something baked into the .3ds model by Carrara??

Actually, I've also just tried .x as the file format and that works 100% correctly in Skyline  So, for the time being I think I'll stick with .x for my models.

Hope this helps.

Regards

i imported your model, which came in yellow.

I then upgraded the material using the material editor into an advanced material by pressing the save button which removed the yellowing, Set the normal strength to 0 on the slider as it doesn't have a normal map and hit the save button.

This is what the model looks like now:

Hi SolarPortal,

Thanks for that, I'm still getting my head around the Basic/Advanced Material stuff :?

I'll keep persevering and I'll get there one day :P

Strange how .x models seem to work straight away though????

As far as I'm aware all models will need their material upgraded to the advanced. When I import they come out very very dark.

PS Dont forget if you have to reimport a model you will need to redo the ad mat as well, or make a copy of original admat.

I believe the base material that is created with the .3ds import(assimp)/export(carrara) must set the diffuse color to yellow, when the advanced material is made, it rewrites the material with the advanced base settings which has a white diffuse.
