Default scenes

Default scenes

Postby claiborne » 21 Apr 2015, 19:18

Hi Everyone, I just picked up this awesome engine last week and have been enjoying my time with it thus far. I do however have a question for anyone that's willing to answer. What I was curious about is how does the editor/.exe know which scene is the default scene to load on start up? Say for instance I've made three scenes (Intro, level1 and level2) where do I specify to the editor that when the .exe is built, "intro" should be loaded as the first scene?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and Welcome to the forums claiborne :D We are happy that you are enjoying skyline and look forward to seeing your work.

When you export the game, select the "Intro" scene (main menu etc..) in your case. This will have the starting level load command which can then load other levels and so forth.

On the export panel, simply select the extra scenes that the game requires as content and it will choose to launch the
scene with the "Main Scene" radio button checked.

The export writes out a .skyini file which shows the levels to load.
This file allows you to customize the what scene is loaded. I think of the top of my head that the .skyini file has to match the .exe name.

Hope this helps :D

nice one tattie :) That will be very useful for users.

@claiborne: i forgot to mention that there is a set of tech demos for this in the "Asset Library/Scenes/Tech Demo/Misc/" and they are called:
  • Level Loading_Main.xSkyScene
  • Level Loading_Ocean.xSkyScene
  • Level Loading_Terrain.xSkyScene
