Skyline v2 Ocean

Skyline v2 Ocean

Postby SolarPortal » 10 Oct 2019, 16:26

Hi everyone, been a while, just thought id share one of the upcoming new features for v2 skyline which is the new ocean.

Here is another shot of the ocean before the reflection was added:

It has swell and cresting algorithms based on the current water action but in a custom shader and also depth blending, cheap reflection, 2 tone water colours, and soon to have refraction. Then adding the underwater fx to finish it off.
Hope everyone is doing well :)

p.s. also looking into volumetric clouds for the future :)

Just thought id add a quick very rough video showcasing the work so far.
And i also forgot to note, that this ocean is lodded and cell based very much like terrain, so you can go quite large and keep relatively good detail. It also GPU based making it much more efficient.

Yes please - volumetric clouds for more realistic sky - can use that for sure.

BTW - looks great what you have done - keep up the good work..
I may be porting my game done in another engine into Skyline as I am impressed...:)

Awesome mate looks good, yay getting the ocean system back.. :P lol
the old system was pretty good but this should be miles better.. :P

I agree about the volumetric clouds, the weather systems that you was looking into before where interesting and provided huge benefits over the old system even tho that was quite impressive as well...

oh is there a plan to get vertex animations in before christmas? lol I know its coming upon us quite fast just thinking and wishing lol...

Can not wait to get me mits on the ocean system and have a play around.. :P

V2 skyline has not yet been released and is currently in development. So currently no new news on this as we are in a phase where we are developing the features and trying to get another version ready. But as stated, currently no release date on this.
