New Update in Preparation.

New Update in Preparation.

Postby StarFire » 12 Apr 2016, 17:34

Just though I would let you guys know about the new update in preparation. ;)

We are knee deep in Skyline, had to merge 2 different systems worth of code into the new version of Skyline, this is close to 600 pages of code that has changed ( new render ) or being added due to the modules and a few fixes. This has sent our eyes side ways many times but after a long 9 hour session the code has been merged and testing is in full swing.

So we are now fully committed to the new release and alpha build of the new renderer. Only a matter of a short time and we will let you loose on this update :D

By no means will it will ready to make a game on, but we are calling it a preview alpha.

@co, please please make backups of your scenes and games just so nothing is lost.

This version still has some major issues and we are still going to be developing it. Would be interesting to see how well it loads though. :)

Will this version be separate from the current version, or an update that overwrites the current???

no, we will be developing both skyline versions until we are happy for the newer renderer to take over. Its a bit more work but it ensures that there is a stable version for people to use :)

This weekend. Currently trying to add a video memory management into the engine to unload resources to as many crashes happening as newer renderers are not that happy once vid mem is exceeded. Plan is sat or sun :)
Plus we are also fighting off a bad flu each and working the best we can :)

Fear not, our only job is the updated release atm :)

This virus has hit us very hard left no person standing, well untainted by its presence :? still one member of our household is very flued up, the rest of us are nursing the recovery time.
This said there has been lots of work being done in the studio, I have completed our new kick ass FPS system and SP has been up to the lemsip with gpu ram problems that DX11~ has brought to the industry and more so us. This has caused so many out of mem errors as the new tech doesn't manage memory like dx9 and also requires textures to be in special formats!.Obviously finished games should have the correct texture sizes and formats but Skyline likes to feed on anything and deal with this later. As you can guess we are trying to find solutions for this, one such solution is a new gpu ram manager which ensures that if an object is removed its gpu ram use is removed, today this new system has been added to the current Skyline and should make it more efficient and required by the new renderer just to even look at the asset library textures folders! :o
Tmoz we have planned a new code merge so you can have the mem manager, so release package should be ready soon, followed by the alpha. ;)
