Subscription system ?

Subscription system ?

Postby SpiderMack » 24 Oct 2017, 13:16

Hi,

About 3D engine, would subs be better for Skyline 3D engine ?

For example there is Esenthel 3D engine workign with subs at low price like 10$.
The engine have some visibility for users throught Steam and it's free version and you can buy the commercial subs after trying it.
There only one license to make it simple also, it's you can use it only if you have active subs.

Subs means a regular income for Skyline devs each months, instead of relying on the 100$ annual upgrades.

Would it make sense for Skyline to make it's own subs system ? Or is annual license management enought and more easy ?
Or have both options like annual and subscription ?

(Subscription can be more complicated as you must be able to manage people letting down subscription or renewing it)

yeah, subscription would be more work and don't want the end users being confused over which systems to go for and signing up here and there.. The updates per year is just to get your next years updates.. don't pay then you keep the version you have...
Miss 2 years, then you may have to repay the full engine pricing again.

Subsscriptions are good for SAAS systems, but probably more of a hindrance for users that just want to join in and have fun...
purchase, use, export, make themselves some money :P

I agree, that the subscription model would give us a regular income, but i don't personally like them..

It makes sense.
It's like Substance Designer and Painter leading software, they let you choose subscription or year license; lot of users prefer to buy a year license instead of going into subscription.
