Detail Projectors

Detail Projectors

Postby SolarPortal » 20 Jan 2021, 20:34

Hey guys, so after the tesselation which we have yet to show off, we decided to have a quick test to see if we could pull off the projected based details that allows you to moss up a scene or add snow to surfaces based on a world direction, such as straight down. Anyway here is a quick looksie:

Question - is there any way to combine this with painting? In other words, would it be possible to paint "moss" to be projected like this so it only affects a part of the top, side, etc.?

the standard blendmaps still do apply over the top too and with the ability to use the vertex colours of the mesh in the new version, you could essentially paint where the detail could go.... just havent wrote the vertex painter into skyline yet, but it could be painted in blender or whatnot :P

Edit: Blends nicely with the scene also:

Personally im looking forward to the detail layers having a heightmap to tesselate the snow on top lol

Definitely! That would add another level of realism to the mix.

The new terrain will initially have 4 layers although it has been designed to handle many. :D

@r2ks, there was a bug on those versions where you would need to select the paint icon, paint layer, tweak the brush size and strength and then try painting. If you dont see paint, then try upping the strength and use the multiplier as well as the slider to make it stronger again.

As for painting errors where a square edge appears when painting, these have been improved in the new version.

Beside the four layers will you be able to paint material or textures on to the Terrain?
