Can you change it so all the forums can be seen at the top level rather than having to come into tech support to see feature requests (for example)?

I have adjusted the Technical support to the best the system allows for now ;)

Not sure that putting the others to top level would be good as this was the way it used to be and we had a lot of page scrolling to see if there had been new topics/posts. But if that is the will of the community, who are we to argue and it shall be returned to top level ;)

Personally I liked all the forums at the top level (and vote for it to be changed back that way - maybe a user poll would help you determine the ideal layout?)- I'm guessing it's probably not possible to have it a user selectable choice to show all the forums or just a subset.
Can I suggest that you list the subforums for every area, not just select ones? eg. Downloads currently shows its subforums, but Community doesn't. I think it would be good for it to be consistent.
