Right now they are all on sale with prices around 10% of what they would be. Already bought a few..

Yeah, so have I :D

BTW they often have 80%+ sales which they advertise on other Engines' forums :x so I'll try to let you know when I hear ;)

There are also another couple of places that regularly hold sales/give-aways or are pretty cheap:

http://www.ilusiva.com - they do cartoony stuff like coffins/treasure chests etc. for $2-$3 each
http://www.truebones.com - mainly animated stuff (they recently gave away a 500 bvh pack!) for Poser & Second Life, but can be retargeted to work in Maya/Blender etc.

My favourite though is http://www.turbosquid.com who are extremely helpful and will convert models for free (if you have purchased them).

Regards

This is a great site and a cheap way of getting models, I would not sell a game with these sharing models sites as your game will look just like every other game out there that uses these sites..

I suppose its a place to start, I would use the buildings as these look great, the chars on the other hand your much better off paying for someone to create some for you if you can not do it yourself and getting something unique to your project.

I think that any somewhat serious gamemaker would only buy assets to build upon them and adjust them to the look of his game. Its fairly common to retexture and adjust the models you buy and its far easier than build anything from scratch.
Of course there are always those that just buy stuff from stores and shove it in their games but thats a little dilettantish and usually doesn't fit together. However, with just a few tweaks in some art-program its easy to give things a matching look.
