I'm new to this web page

Postby En929 » 03 Mar 2017, 04:48

I'm new to the Skyline Game Engine. I have been developing 2D games and now I'm trying to learn how to develop 3D games. I just discovered this Skyline Engine two days ago. This seems to be the best Engine so far. I think it's very intuitive and it seems easy to learn. I might buy the standard version soon and maybe within a week from now.

So far, I've been seeing that developing 3D games has been VERY VERY different from developing games in 2D and there's a lot to learn and get used to. Thus, It has been a slow process for me, but I've been learning day by day and I hope to get good at it. Thus, I just thought I'd introduce myself and I will be posting in these forums if I have any questions.

Hello and welcome to the Skyline Game Engine forum En929 :D We hope you enjoy the engine and learn all the skills needed to create a great 3D game.

It would be a good idea to watch TattieBoJangle's videos as they cover a vast area of the engine and some of the features you will discover and need to create your levels. The written documentation is currently being developed as skyline is in a BETA stage of development and a lot of the newer content being written is for the newer Gen2 although it is cross compatible to a point with Gen1.

http://www.forum.aurasoft-skyline.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1107

We offer lua scripting as the main programming side to skyline and a visual module system to create all the mechanics you need.
3D can offer different challenges to 2D game programming but most of the setup and working with game content is the same apart from the extra dimension :)

We are here to help with any queries or bugs you find and are on the forums every day looking for new posts :)

On a sidenote, we are also developing Skyline Game Engine - Gen2 which offers faster performance and higher visual fidelity to create great looking 3D games with industry standard PBR and quick and easy workflows. Gen2 also offers more features while editing in the scene and has many more features being advanced. This is in private alpha at the moment and will be releasable in the next few coming months :)

p.s. check the forums out as it contains a lot of useful information and scripts already that will help you get going :D

I know that feeling... ;) It is indeed, you've made the best choice.

You'll find soon that 3d game development is 90% of 3d modeling though, so I suggest to get the grips on it as soon as you can.

Welcome to the forum and good luck in your new adventure.

Welcome to the forums,

Tattie has some great tutorials there and the New documentation is coming along http://www.chi-ad.com/DokuWiki/doku.php/writtentutorials and will be having videos tutorials to go along with the documentation, eventually I want to be doing some video tutorials that will take you through the basics of starting a game from creating a scene/level (visual) and some of the mechanics that you will need in most games.

I am currently working on a weather system that has seasons and a few extras like can have humidity to effect crops and heat/cold effecing the player.

This is a test I made (not used to doing videos and hate the sound of my voice lol)

Working with Gen1 There are some demo scenes. :

Display a info screen using a trigger

Player teleport/move player
http://www.forum.aurasoft-skyline.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1317

There is a in-game pause menu script (demo level) and extra splash screens demo level, for when you get the hang of it..

Oh also a couple of documents I have not finished that are based off Gen1, again I did not finish them so take what you can from them...

If you need any help hit PM me and I can put something together for you.. :)

Oh also a video I made ages ago..

These videos are very well done. Easy to follow and well paced to keep up with the perfect amount of detail.

This is a great group of people here. Friendly and helpful.

I am a new member as well.
I know it is a great feeling to be part of this engine.
I am 2D game developer.
Also, to progress beyond my abilities I have decided to be a part of this engine.
I have started this game project I have had in my mind for several years.
It would be a 3D game. And I am already loving the process of learning to make 3D games.
