transfering from crytek

transfering from crytek

Postby uk-stryder » 10 Dec 2016, 16:41

hi guys glad to see the ongoing dev of this engine since cheese on toast dragged me here many years ago.

as the post states im going to pull my development from cryengine over to skyline.
reasons for this will be obvious to people in the industry.
reasons im choosing skyline.
firstly ive tested numerous engines over the yrs, unreal, unity,ce.
most fail in certain aspects from poor engine development too crappy pipeline creation and some just insane ways of creating basic features.
secondly i want to support a smaller set of people and based in my own country, i believe ur uk based.

once again a big hello to you guys.

hey there uk-stryder yes uk based engine developers. starfire and solarportal :D

I'm also from England, as is a few others of the more regular members posting here :)

glad to have another uk member supporting the software, hope you get into it and everything..
tattiebojangle has a huge bunch of tutorials ready to help you with gen1 software and epilsonion has been making documentation for gen2 for people to get into gen2. I'm sure as time goes by more upto date tuts will be added for gen2 changes but anything you get stuck with or need answering just post and I'm sure questions will be answered!.

Welcome back uk-stryder :D

Great to have you back to support Skylines development and community. Skyline is a UK developed pieces of software with two of us developing the engine out of passion plus a some cool community members helping out where they can :D

Skylines Gen2 is in alpha but if you would like to join the testing and get in first with some feature request your game will require, give SolarPortal a pm.
We do our best to get bugs and features turned around in a healthy amount of time but after all there is only two of us developing Skyline so may not be as quick as the big guns out their, but we do our British best lol

hi guys thanks for the nice welcome back.

i will be approaching skyline in the same manor i did with CE.
ill be rebuilding my game from the base up and will do documentation as i work through the different aspects.
exactly as i did with CE.
from landscape creation and material, through foliage, vehicles, weapons, npc control onto particles, lighting ,level design etc etc

documenting the pitfalls but im confident skyline wont carry hardly any of the horrendous bugs CE had.

expect lots of noob questions aswell guys lol
cheers

Gen2 has not yet got the vegetation and terrain systems converted to the new rendering but should be in place by Feb well that's the aim, hope its in sooner ;) Ready for a Gen2 public release in Feb 2017 where we will switch users from Gen1 to Gen2 and this will become the main version.

We will do our very best to answer your questions :D

Materials are different in Gen2 as they follow the specular or metal PBR workflows. But Skyline can auto convert to the new pbr Skymat file but would still need a few hands on tweeks to get that perfect finish.
Terrain is one of our current tasks so should be sooner than later and we want to be able to convert gen1 terrains to gen2.
The gen2 script editor has just had an overhaul with some much needed intellisense and word highlighting, due to be released for xmass.

Personally I have not touched gen1 since gen2 has become more stable but it is still in alpha plus its rendering is way faster and looks AAA. Maybe its worth you getting a copy of gen2 and giving it a go. The next update has loads of stability fixes too and should be more stable that gen1 (lol I said it, activate Murphys law  )

Tatty has been working with tb of assets on gen2 and I think between us we have got the workflow smoother.

Give SP a pm and he will update your account for you as you were an original alpha tester :D
