Who Remembers the ZX Spectrum??

Who Remembers the ZX Spectrum??

Postby Shando » 19 Nov 2013, 02:32

Hi All,

Today is a *HUGE* day in my life......... :ugeek:

I have finally finished, after 2 and a bit years, my all Z80 Machine Code (Assembler if that's what you prefer) version of Yahtzee for the ZX Spectrum 8-)

It was supposed to be ready for the Speccy's 30th birthday, but I got held up with the music

I am now just waiting on confirmation that I can use the music ( a superb song by Mike Peters / the Alarm called "Walk Forever By My Side" - one of my all-time favourite songs from my all-time favourite band  ) and, assuming I can get permission, I'll be releasing it (probably free) soon.

For those of you that don't know, the ZX Spectrum was a colour home computer from the early 80s that had a *massive* 48KB of RAM, an 8 bit CPU, a graphics resolution of 256 x 192, and a single speaker for sound, and it was my second computer (after my trusty ZX81 - yes, I was a Sinclair FanBoi! Though I did also get a C64 later on, as well as a Jupiter Ace and an Enterprise 64).

I'll keep you all updated when I've heard back.

Regards

Shando

PS: I was, or more accurately still am, also into Punk (Dead Kennedys, Sham69, Clash, Buzzcocks, Damned, Sex Pistols etc.) & Heavy Rock/Metal (mainly Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Megadeth and Slayer, but I did quite like Venom too ;) ) All up I probably saw The Alarm live over 40 times, including 20 in one year

Hi ant0N,

Sorry, but my Russian is a lot worse than your English

so I've found a link to a YouTube video (in Russian hopefully) of the computer I'm talking about:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-77Jods6VQY

The rest of my post was about mainly British music from the 80s 8-)

ha, the zx spectrum is a bit before my time lol,
but having to program your games into the machine to play them should make playing them much more fun and meaningful than todays "plug and play" style.
Plus you get to learn to code at the same time. :P

Venom - "Nighthawk" was actually part of two of the songs from the "The Waste Lands" album.
I think the 2 songs were "Clarisse" and "Cursed".
He was the keyboard player and went under the name of "V.X.S" at the time, before "Chi-ad" kicked off.

OK, so it took me longer than anticipated to put my Speccy version of Yahtzee out there, but here it is:

Maybe now I can spend some more time with Skyline

ZX Spectrum 48kb was my first computer - I remember there was quite a big rivalry between Spectrum and Commodore users.
