My Tutorial

Postby epsilonion » 09 Mar 2015, 13:00

This is my first ever tutorial, well more of a feature over view.

I looked at the awesome tutorials created already and thought I wonder if I could do one... lol Never done one before and yes I know I say erm a lot, always have.. :D lol

Spine Path Editor - Uses, in this example to create a camera fly through, just like they do in cut scenes.

nice, very descriptive which helps the new user, however the video for me was very flickery. Not sure if it was just my machine though :)

Bake to animation - this guarantees a smooth movement and smooth rotation, but the camera cannot be controlled while it is animating, essentially, it bakes onto a timeline where the camera will be at a certain time and what rotation it should be. It is a keyframed system. Whereas with it off, it is dynamically moved and rotated, but it gives the ability to edit the movement and rotation as the camera is flying through using lua script or other actions.

Use Smooth Spline This is on by default to create a smooth interpolation between positions and will create an ark to the next point based on the position before, current position and the next node after that. It uses a quadratic lerping. This mode does not require a lot of node positions to create a smooth movement. Try this with 1 or 2 resolution, then turn it off and see the difference for yourself.
With it off, the positions will slide from point to point which can create a jerky movement with low points, plus the rotation doesn't muck up on the first frame.

Reverse Path I am unsure if this is working yet, will look into it in the future though.

Tip: If you go into animate mode and turn the camera off from being the active one, you will see the camera moving around the scene without you being dragged with it, this helps in seeing what the camera is doing. When in animate mode, most of the settings can be tweaked to help find the right speed and balances quicker. Part of the rapid dev side of skyline.

I like the fact that you mentioned using a trigger at the end of the path, which is the original intention for switching back to game or to another path.

Overall, pretty good for a first go, much better than my speaking lol :P Look forward to seeing some more. :)

Sounds like you are getting some doubling up on the audio feeds causing the flange( alien voice) part the way through not sure what would cause this but check out your audio routing on your sound mixer.

Great accent, I was originally from North Yorkshire but lost my accent a while ago.

I think it is because I have the Tascam on usb power, its never done this while its been attached to my DSL camera recording at weddings, mind you not used it since last summer.. lol

I will redo this tut/overview when I have the sound fixed, need to invest in some more rechargeable batteries for it...

My aim is to do an overview of all these features like the path editor etc etc for people looking for information about the ease of use of this engine, oh and can not wait for the flow graph editor thingy.. :D looks similar to UE4 blueprints..

Since I have not been apart of the community long and basically been house bound most of the time it feels freate to be apart of someting

I like the idea of feature overviews, the more videos we have out there showing Skylines ease of use the better. ;)

Since I have not been apart of the community long and basically been house bound most of the time it feels great to be apart of something
