this does look really good and under an LGPL license, this will be includable into skyline as long as we combine it using a dll and not a static build. :) We shall have a look at some point to see if it is possible as the current ocean system is a bit sluggish.

Yea, my engine is suffering at the moment. Hydrax is really slow. :/

Thanks.

The bottom image looks similar, but uses a fake angled subsurface scattering to create the difference in colors on breaking waves and deep ocean.

It does look good and similar though :)

I did some minimal research so no answers or facts are laid out, but i have read that the performance issue can still exist with osgOcean. We need to know that this ocean system is fast compared to hydrax which is slow due to creating reflection & refraction which takes a double render to achieve refraction. Then it is also running a noise module every frame instead of approximating and is not ran multi threaded.

Any research from other users is welcome :)

Could you not have it so the ocean is a bumpy mesh that resembles a wavy surface along with some sort of shader this way we could have it in any size and would be easy on the fps ;) it may just be me but I hate water planes they are ok for islands and stuff but I like to move my water and have the ability to have them at different heights.

Hydrax is only rendered inside of the camera's frustum rather than a big mesh but it give the illusion and as you say can not be moved.

The Skyline water preset is a mesh plus shader, although the shader does need to be upgraded and simplified. ;)
It was made when we had a 10 unit system so properties when out of whack when we change to 1m = 1 unit.

I think the preset:
Asset Library/Presets/Nature/Water/Water - Flooded River.preset - is ok
Asset Library/Presets/Skyline Scene Types/Default Types/Default - Water Plane.preset
