I think it's more some ideas instead of a request
Some very usefull tool is a modeler included in the editor to prototype or make final assets, your workflows gains lot of speed as you don't switch between in game editor and some modeler.

Some successfull indie games used those tools.
The advantage of a modeler is you can make assets right in the editor in some easy way quickly, or make your level ground layout to test gameplay before detailling.
The difference with 3D tiles is you can make lot of variations to your level to get some layout not repetitive at all.
You can see some example in that video about a small game
The goal was to talk about those sort of tools , i think many people like such modelers specially those who play with GTK radiant or Source Engine.
