Open scene as a new unnamed scene template [Done]

Open scene as a new unnamed scene template [Done]

Essentially; lets say you create several scenes with assets, script, models, properties, ect for various scene concepts.....

It would be awesome to have a way to open an existing scene file as a new scene but instead of a blank scene, the scene file is 'copied' into the existing scene overwriting the entire scene with the scene file's contents :)

-but- this would be a 'copy' of the scene file on the hard drive and thus the scene file on the hard doesnt get modified in any way, also, the existing scene doesn't have its filename changed in any way :)

basically creating a scene from an existing template -only- you don't have to mess around with file-specific "scene templates" you just choose the existing scene file and it is used to generate a new scene as a template...

lol im pretty tired, sorry for not making myself too clear xD

Yes, i get what you mean :P

Essentially you want a new scene that is copied from a template scene without writing back to the template scene.

This can be done by placing a new menu item under "new scene" item called "new scene from template". When pressed, this will open a dialog of the scene file to clone from. This will clone everything in the scene to the new scene, but when it comes to saving, both save and save as will open the save dialog window to save the scene separately.

In the Asset Library scenes folder, we could make a templates folder, and when the "new scene from template" menu item is pressed, it will locate itself to the scene templates file location for quicker access to templates. This way you keep your templates organised, but it wouldn't stop you from loading a template file from anywhere else in the asset library/project library.

It is added to the user requests page.

Super Awesome man! :D

I have allllllwaysed wanted to have this capability but havent seen it in any other engine out there. It will come in massively handy to be able to do this and could even be used to create template scenes for sharing with others to help them on their way ^^
