Fast Default Scene or High Quality Default Scene?

Fast Default Scene or High Quality Default Scene?

Postby SolarPortal » 17 Oct 2016, 16:50

well, here is the first thought for everyone....

Would you prefer to see the default scene with all the effects running? and give skyline the best image quality or would you want it to run as fast as possible with no PostFX and then build it up?

I personally prefer the new lighting HDR by default but omit and post fx such as HBAO as it does have a hit on frame as its a high end feature. Can not live with out HDR now!

Thanks @Kohelo for you idea, Skyline can save a default scene from the editor which opens when Skyline editor is opened and this has a memory of everything. But what should a default scene first show the new user? best visual , best performance or a compromise :)

I would go for visual first as you can always clean up and get your performance later down the line when and if you need it ;)

I agree visual.

Think of it this way, a new user comes along to scope out the engine, loads it up and the visuals aren't that good, it flies like mad great performance but there not looking for that, they want to see what the software can do and what it can output.

Don't forget you have very useful features that impress such as the weapon editor, visual editor, GUI editor (is having a face lift) and more these are the features that you don't get with other indie/loyalty free engines also the planned features like the Raknet multiplayer, river editor, constraints editor and more.

See where I am going here?

I agree with tattie here visual and clean up later on.
