Hi,

I got crash when running the game

1) make a new scene
2) add "Fps armed" player
3) add Zombie character preset from "preset" folder

Run the game.

I dont have the crash when using the Zombie from the Game Object panel and i dont have a zombie preset in the "Asset Library/Presets" folder, was this by any chance your own version that you added more code to and saved to preset. If so, i can test it for you and stop any crashes found! :)

Something went wrong in Skyline, but i don't know what ?

Any new scene empty or with some object will crash

While opening and running previous scene works

Another strange issue is there is no crash with scene falg dynamic (F10), while it crashes when trying to run the scene.

On editor start if i press play it crashes evry time.

im wondering if you have a missing or broken physx system software.

Please send me your skyline.log from the Win32_Release folder :) and the Skyline_techsupport.txt
as it sounds like physx has not initialised correctly on engine boot.

Edit: We used to get this because physx updated that system software to be compatible with physx3 and dropped support of physx 2.8 which is what we use. You may need to install: Download Physx system software v9.13.0725
to get it physx running which may require an uninstall of the latest physx system software first, then install this one and then upgrade to the latest..

i need the full log for tech support as the physx initialiser is closer to the start.

I got a working Physix with Unity for example wihtout any issue.

Unity uses physx 3.x+ which negates most of these issues

Absolutely and it is in the cards as i explained on your other post ;)

Today i succeed one or three times running some map with some objects chaging physic object values and changing IBL map,
but i did no more succeed.
Perhaps something is corrupted ?

Thats is strange because maps i made the other day, loading them , they works fine when i go in run mode whyle any new scene won't run. This happened yesterday, i don't know why ?

i also agree that users are not going to want to do this and we will have to come up with a solution.

Perhaps SKyline should upgrade Physix Version, i also don't think users will uninstall Physix because Skyline is not up to date :?

I can run nothing with or without characters, only previous old maps can run.

Note: If its not physics, then it could be the temp_graph that is stored in the "Skyline - Gen2/Data/SkyGraph/" folder.

We note that you were playing with the graphs and if you didnt use a micro graph then the scene default could be broken as we do have a fault there in the engine which can be caused by: Open skyline, opne visual module editor, then add something and press save.

So to fix this, find the file temp_graph.skygraph at the above folder location and empty the text file, then press save then reboot the engine.
This could be why it crashes on play and not animate.

If this does fix it, the i apologize for the dragging you round the houses with the physics fault.

i am wondering if the default scene has been corrupted or temp_graph containing a faulty graph. I did notice you have been in the modules and there has been a hard to track down bug that if a graph was not saved it would persist to a new/load scene, this would mean its being added to the temp graph. This would then look like the scene is crashing where as it could be a module error. Can you please check your Skylines Data\SkyGraph\temp_graph.skyGraph and open it in a text editor, if its not empty can y delete the contents and resave then restart skyline.

Try overwriting the file at the folder location "Skyline - Gen2\Data\SkyGraph" folder.

The file is already empty. The issue is not animation playing , but empty scene crashing when i press play.

This happens in other 3D engines to other people , and only solution is they have to re install.
But i would liked to know why ?Where is the default scene ?

When i run a scene befoer crashing there is a message at bottom saying :
"Skyline is updrading to meet the requirements" what does this means ?

(I think i will re sintall to not loose too many time on corrupted files)

right.

Default scene is located in Skyline - Gen2/Data/Scenes/Default.xSkyScene and all files associated with it are also stored there.
i would have sent you the files to overwrite with manually if you wanted, to save the reinstall.

"Skyline is updrading to meet the requirements" what does this means ?

Skyline upgrades scenes to always match the new version which allows constant porting from version to version while still keeping backwards compatibility to a high level. The only time this is awkward is when you port from Gen1 to Gen2, otherwise everything will always upgrade without having to redo anything. So as a scene loads, it checks versions of entities, actions etc.. and what doesn't match the latest version, it is upgraded to work. Like in the last release, we changed the physx triggers action properties and reordered everything, but when you load a scene that had an older trigger. Its is updated and stores all your properties.

The issue is not animation playing


I would like to clear any confusion as SP was referring to the Animate button next to the play game button. Skyline has 3 methods of visualizing the scene at development time.

Animate Button : (activates all scene actions with out running any game logic such as scripts and graphs) This runs certain actions such as particles so that you can see effects and other specific action effects with out running any game logic. Although this does also include any skeletal animations which is where it can cause confusion. We refer to this as being in animate mode.

Play Game Button: This runs the same as animate mode plus any game logic enabling you to see the game running inside the editor. We tend to call this mode "Play game"

Player: This mode is the same as Play game mode apart from it will run externally to the editor. This will perform the same as an exported game. We refer to this as The Player. ;)

I don't think each update have to be 100% backward compatible , some small things can change.
It's the case for Unreal 4 , each update can break some old features, and it's not one issue as general engine philosophy stays the same.
For example the way to create terrain materials changed in the material editor , but this was a huge improvment for engine next versions.
I don't know if they are people using Gen 1 for producing and distributing a game, but Gen 2 don't have to follow and be compatible with Gen 1.
Some times changing some features and loose compatibility can be a good thing.

Excellent, we know we can close this as it isnt a physics bug, but something did corrupt in the scene files.
If it happens again, then send me the Default scene files from the Data/Scenes folder and we can then debug what went wrong for you :)
