Editor won't start on Win 10 (FIXED)

Editor won't start on Win 10 (FIXED)

Postby Shando » 31 Jul 2015, 07:02

Hi All,

Finally managed to update to Win 10 c/w WiFi :)

Unfortunately, I have now lost Skyline :( :(

Basically, I click on the Skyline exe and nothing happens. The _TechSupport.txt is blank (well, it has the "MAIN START" header, but that's all).

Skyline did work once (one of the first things I tested when I finally got Win 10 working), and the only things I've done, apart from a few cosmetic changes, is install "Classic Start Menu" and install an *unsigned* webcam driver.

I have had Task Manager running, and Skyline briefly (i.e. less than a second) pops up in there, but then disappears.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Try removing the skyline.cfg and delete the 2 resource files and try to boot again.

Is this the latest v0.9.6?

Hmmm. try and reinstall skyline just in case of corruption.i now have windows 10 and skyline is running, but there are a couple of OS related bugs, perhaps yours is another one. All I do know is that skyline is windows 10 compatible.

Maybe try and run a compatibility mode or run as admin...
Have you rebooted. Windows 10 required several restarts in order to become stable for me and star fire.

Note: We will get to the bottom of this with you, but I will have have to leave at 10 this morning for a few hours so I may not respond for a while.

Edit: also check all your dependecies

A reinstall should do the job the problem with a update and not a clean install is it sometimes messes up registry files and even dependencies.

Hi AuShadow,

Have you checked the Skyline_TechSupport.txt and Skyline.log files? (in \Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release)

If they don't help, then I would suggest taking a look at the Windows Error Report (.wer) file which may give some help?

These are usually located somewhere like here:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\

and the Skyline one will have a name similar to this:

AppCrash_Skyline Editor.[long string here]\Report.wer

See if you can find it and take a look towards the end where it will give you a list of loaded modules, something like this:

Code: Select all
LoadedModule[75]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qdds.dll
LoadedModule[76]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qgif.dll
LoadedModule[77]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qicns.dll
LoadedModule[78]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qico.dll
LoadedModule[79]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qjp2.dll
LoadedModule[80]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qjpeg.dll
LoadedModule[81]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qmng.dll
LoadedModule[82]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qtga.dll
LoadedModule[83]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qtiff.dll
LoadedModule[84]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qwbmp.dll
LoadedModule[85]=D:\Aurasoft\SkylineSDK\Skyline\Win32_Release\plugins\imageformats\qwebp.dll
LoadedModule[86]=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iertutil.dll
LoadedModule[87]=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ondemandconnroutehelper.dll
LoadedModule[88]=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winhttp.dll
LoadedModule[89]=C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswsock.dll
LoadedModule[90]=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DNSAPI.dll
LoadedModule[91]=C:\Windows\System32\rasadhlp.dll
LoadedModule[92]=C:\WINDOWS\System32\fwpuclnt.dll
LoadedModule[93]=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dhcpcsvc.DLL

This may, or may not, help the devs (if there is nothing in the Skyline techsupport or log files of course).

Regards

Shando

PS: be careful if you post the .wer file as I'm not sure if it contains identifying information or not.

Code: Select all

This file looks like the culprit. Apparently it's something to do with the AMD Raptr In-Game Overlay (http://systemexplorer.net/file-database/file/ltc_game32-90652-dll).

So, I would suggest disabling Raptr and trying again??

my skyline refuses to start up on my win10 computer now, was working fine yesterday but today I cant get it to start up.. have restarted pc, tried admin rights etc and troubleshooter, all I get is a incompatible with win10 message from that.
did they release a minor update to win10 lastnight does any1 know of?. I cant for the life of me understand why yesterday it worked and now it don't, I have not changed anything that I can think of..

edit:- seems windows did indeed update at 7am odd this morning while I was asleep.. not cool ;/

ok I'm thinking uninstall, but wont do that yet.

here is a screenshot of task manager.
it takes about 5 seconds for skyline to build upto the shown amount of usage before it auto closes itself.

all I get from the trouble shooter is skyline is not windows 10 compatible.

ok, after some time with tattie walking me through the regedit and not being any use for fixing the issue I have uninstalled deleted and redownloaded skyline etc from scratch. everything now works and is running fine :).
no idea why what or how it all happened but I'm back to being able to use the software lol. thanks tattie for the help m8, and star/sp also :)

When in doubt backup and reinstall works 99% of the time ;) it was a strange one mind you it was as if something was blocking it from running but we ruled that out by turning everything off lol anyway glad you are back up and running.
