Material editor crash (FIXED)

Material editor crash (FIXED)

Postby epsilonion » 24 Sep 2015, 22:44

I will put this in the right board this time lol..

I created 2 worlds (planets) with 2 different textures and put them into 2 different folders under the assets library.
The problem is not importing them its using the models, they both seem to have the same texture applied to them so when you go to the material editor the name of the material flickers from the one it should be to "01_-_Default.material", both of the planets share the same texture that's assigned through this material and they seems to be no way of getting it to use the correct material.

you can save to another material file name but the error comes up not in resources can not save.. lol..

here is a video showing the crash and how to repeat it.

thx for that video liam.

When you change a material that another mesh is using and it doesn't update, then you can either:
> RMB+click in the scene and choose sync material / shaders ( best one to use ).
> Reload the scene entity if the mesh is the same
> Try the refresh button in the material editor
> Switch the scene between advanced and basic and back again

Ideally for what you are doing, you will want to have 2 materials. One for each planet that has a different texture. This is because materials applied to multiple sub entities will be shared and we have not yet made the unique material yet.

As for the crash, i couldn't get the logs.

Hope this helps and makes sense of the workflow :)

ok, i think you should make materials out of the textures and apply these directly. Then it will use the new materials you made and not the ones that were applied to the model originally.
