Updates causing crashes (FIXED)

Updates causing crashes (FIXED)

Postby SolarPortal » 22 Oct 2016, 15:20

Hi, i am starting this topic so we dont hijack liams bug report thread.

A couple of users are having problems with loading the engine after startup.

  • The first issue was due to path installing changes on the 0.9.8.2 release which didnt update to V0.9.8.3 properly from the original installation of gen2.
This was solved by recreating the Resource folder on the root of Data found in the skyline game engine installation.
  • The Second bug was the Time of day system crashing the default scene if saved with it on skyline boot procedure. This has been fixed in code, but there are 2 fixes to try if you have this error.
    • 1 ) Grab the original Default scene from installation or download from here:
      Scenes.zip
      (20.01 KiB) Downloaded 427 times

Copy and overwrite the files in the "Data/Scenes".
    • 2 ) If this still hasnt worked then goto "Data/Scenes/" and open the Default.xSkyEnv and make sure the property "skyEnabled" is set to false. Then boot skyline.
Hope this helps some of you :)

lol, its private alpha for a reason haha :P The main reason for the alpha is to ensure it works on everybodies system, which it doesn't seem to be on yours. We'll get there! :D

We will put a new full exe together in a couple of days with the recent fixes and then maybe's try again :)

Q) Is the log file the same as it was before, is there any more information since the sky will be disabled now?

Q) Are there any editors opening like asset manager or Script editor.

Here is the system and scenes folder from the original installation, lets see if this fixes it :)
Download: https://www.aurasoft-skyline.co.uk/downloads_common/Gen2/Data.zip
Just copy both folders inside the Zip and place onto the root of data, overwrite when given the choice.

Also, i cant remember your computer specs. Would you mind adding them here :)

Hopefully, we can get all these errors out of the way so they do not rear their head when we go for a full release :)

Hey CO, Currently working on the Win32_Release for you and have encountered an error stopping skyline from loading.
We are suspecting a windows 10 update has caused the error as the error i am encountering is a silly bug and should not crash and has ran for the past 3 years. So i am seeing what i can do and will release when fixed.

Hey co, please try this version and see if it crashes for you.

i guess since you didnt get up and running that your asset library for Gen2 wouldnt be touched yet, if you have added your stuff, then backup it up and uninstall skyline and reinstall from this release :)

I am looking forward to the results as to whether your crash has been fixed. :)
