Role playing game Protyping

Role playing game Protyping

Postby SpiderMack » 24 Sep 2017, 18:43

Hi,

Skyline is indeed a fast developement software, it has some great base of scripts , 3D models, characters, particles or presets to get quickly started and have a prototype in some minutes, before adding our own content and scripts.

I have many role playing game ideas and styles i want to test in Skyline, from old school to something more modern with a focus on objects and environment interaction.

Gen 1 IBL and materials already do great.

Yes gen 1 certainly has a nice renderer where Gen2 has added to this a modern HDR based lighting and expanded upon the gen 1's fast workflows including object interactions. ie player can walk over to the car and then get in it, open doors, use keys on locked doors, read notes and of course there is the new quest system to help with rpg ideas :)

This is the way to go :)
All AAA game studios even smaller ones make their own assets but they also outsource or buy 3D assets they modify, it's a huge time saver instead of having to do all the process ( sculpt, retopo, UV, paint).

I am ipressed by SKyline IBL quality on model and shadows :o

Adjusting IBL skybox, scene skybox and directionnal light color and value , you get very good and realistic scene lighting.
It looks gorgeous.

Notice the yellow lighting on the model is IBL, the directionnal light is dark blue color.

Image

I don't know if it should be better to have some scene lighting presets menu ?
(for people to quickly setup their scene lighting the right way)

A preset would be something that would set up automatically with values :
1) Directionnal light scene
2) IBL skybox
3) scene Skybox

Perhaps for some future version ?

I kept HDR in the first selection : "Clear skys"
It gives me the best results whatever the scene is dark or clear, but indeed other HDR settings can be usefull.

It's just Skyline IBL on models and shadows looks so amazing good :D

Making some dark lighting , with self illumination materials and playing with Bloom values in Skyline, it's great for very sci fi atmospheric scenes :D

The rendering is very arty in gen2, we look forward to even the basic post processors of brightness, contrast, tone mapping etc..

cool. glad your having fun.

those corridors use multiple materials which you can apply by selecting the entity, then go to the third icon on the property panel in the top left, then drag a material onto the slot.

Each slot represents a submesh in the entities model.

yes, its very cool isn't it and the fact that it is all dynamic to the script and can be edited per entity makes it really powerful. Shareable scripts :)
