Bug Tracking on GitHub

Bug Tracking on GitHub

Postby SolarPortal » 27 Jan 2018, 19:51

We are open to suggestions and have now created an repository on GitHub to see if it is a viable bug tracking method..
If it isn't, then we can look into other free alternatives..

Please do not spam it with issues only real bugs, otherwise we will remove the repository and start again or its proved to be more of a hindrance to the development process.

https://github.com/Aurasoft-UK/Skyline-Game-Engine

Let's see how this goes.. :)

Cool !

I think this will also help you to get all bugs reported in a same area, you can give it a try and see later if you prefer your actual system or if GitHub is better.

personally I think a script such as https://bugs.flyspray.org/ would be better.
githubs issue function is just like using a forum...

script can be obtained https://flyspray.org/

If you get the compiled version you just upload it and no compiling is needed, also its been worked on by the dev or you can even get your own branch of the script so you can modify it to make your own

None of the crap you get with filezilla and mantis BT and others

features include:
  • Easy search function
  • Road map
  • Feature request
  • User login
  • Updates on posted issues
  • Progress on each issue
  • easy t use
  • multiple projects (you could use for web, skyline, api site, doc's etc
  • watching tasks
  • file attachments
  • Atom/RSS feeds
  • 2 syntax options (docuwiki and html)
  • voting for tasks
  • progress bars
  • filter and export
  • end lots more

Thanks for the new link. Just set it up and looks very clean:
https://support.aurasoft-skyline.co.uk/index.php?do=toplevel&project=2

Think we will give this a try. Sorry @SpiderMack will have to move issues to new site to see how it fairs.

Github or some other way is good.
What matters is any user be able to post bugs, follow their progress and see if they are fixed.

The Signin with facebook, github etc has been disabled by the devs because it needs an update - disable it in the settings or when clicked they throw up a error page. so email verification registers only until another update comes out.

Road map - this shows planned features for your project(s). to use the road map instead of using type "request feature" type make it "feature" type and set a development phase for it such as v1.01 or something..

The email templates need updating as they show the demo ones when receiving the registration verification email.. the from name and from email address in particular.

I think the recapture module is been worked on for the next update as well so keep that in mind.. :D

It would be great for users to vote on a bug to be fixed, this would show the way users prioritise bug fixes.. :) shows some insight in what the users would like to be fixed first..

Hope this helps... looks, feels and is miles better than the GitHub one for bug tracking.. :P

done as you mentioned, i have disabled the OAuth options, changed the email templates and also set the notification email setting... Would be cool to have html email templates though...

Users can vote on any bug and can vote up to 10 times per day...

Plus, it does look a lot better after styling to fit the skyline look :)

@SP Are you planning on putting the feature requests/bugs that you have in your TODO list in here as well, or is it purely for new ones?

I tried to login with Skyline forum account but it doesn't work.
It says "that user doesn't exit on the skyline"

Critical bugs should not consider number of votes.
For example Navmesh navigation nor working should be fixed asap, without it you can't make any game based on characters navigating a level.

Obviously a critical bug would not require voting to be fixed! Hence its critical ;)
Some bugs though are more issues that can be worked around and if more people voted on this example issue it would get looked at sooner than another similar issue.

Maybe giving the user the option to choose between if the ticket is a feature request or a bug report would be helpful. :P

thanks, need to tweak the code for this one, unless you know a way of enabling this. Otherwise the user would have the ability to edit the full ticket.
SP says he will have a play with it. ;)

just been through my own bug tracker lol...

Login Admin
Click On the project to change it on.
Manager Project
Task Types
Project specific list values.

Are the task Types ticked under show?

edited:........................

If not then:
When logged in as admin
Click the cog icon top right
Task Types tab
Make sure they are ticked under Show.

I just installed adjusted some properties, added project and feature/tasks and it just worked..

thanks :) yes already had this set.

The issue is that the task is auto assigned to devs and not the user, as the user is not fixing the issue. In the user group we have "edit own task", which obviously doesn't show as its not assigned to the user but the devs. Tried the "edit not my own task", but this opens all of the tasks to be freely editable by any user  lol

So what do we use to report bugs ?
Should the bug forum parts be locked and make a new thread pointing to that new bug report system ?

BTW another bug, when you delete a SCC, or add another SCC , it doesn't remove the flags from removed SCC

This should be used for the bug tracking... depending on how it goes, the bugs section could be locked with a link to the new tracker... currently the new bug tracker is tidier and works with the new site looks..

As for the SCC, try reselecting, this will update the properties.

Edit: Also note, that brown on properties are properties from multi selection...
