Thanks @epsilonion I have improved so much after ditching max/maya and moving to blender. It did take about 15 months to finally feel settled with the package, suits my workflow so much better and now feels very intuative.
I spend most of the early time making/skulpting rocks for meditation but in doing so I repeated the same process tme and time again which gave me a solid foundation to build on ;)

I am dredding making the low poly version, but will have to be done. :?

Your model looks great! Thanks for sharing!

It's interesting how Blender has reinvented itself with these last few releases (starting with v2.8). I was an avid MODO modeler, but have now completely switched to Blender. It's become a great package and the plugins available for it are pretty fantastic, too.

You wouldnt belive it but before the 2.8 I hated it with a passion. The ui use to make me feel stressed but now I use it to chill lol.

Oh, I believe it. Like you, 2.79 (and earlier) was ... just bad. I had tried Blender several times in the past and hated it each time. It was frustrating at best. But they (finally) listened, changed the UI, made other substantial changes, and it's made all the difference. Droves of pros are either moving to Blender or at least adding Blender to their 3D arsenal. Blender now saves me hundreds of dollars annually since I don't have to pay expensive subscription fees for using a modeling application.

Just make sure you have the latest version (2.83). Watch a few tutorials, too. It's pretty amazing how quickly Blender matured into a usable and capable app.

Same here.

I tried blender years back, but i really didnt like it. I used blender only to convert 3D models.
With Blender 2.80 it changed alot in a good way. Tried it again, and its now my only 3D tool.
I miss sketchup tho, push and pull is very quick and handy. Turns out thats a feature coming in 2.90 :D

Also the export to Skyline is very clean s0 long as you set up an export preset and set the units to 0.01 then you get a one to one scale.

As I am sure you know, Blender is it's own thing. Sure, they did a lot with 2.8 and onward to make it comply more with industry standards, but it still does a lot of things its own way. There is a strong temptation to force Blender to work the way we are used to from whatever 3D program background we come from - Max, Maya, LW/MODO. And, yes, you can set the keybindings for everything in Blender to what you want. In fact, there is an "Industry Standard" keymap that can be downloaded and installed to Blender. However, I've found that it is best to learn Blender as Blender is ... keyboard shortcuts and all.

It can be frustrating at first, but with practice it becomes intuitive. Some of it can actually be ... even more intuitive than what we were using previously in whatever 3D app we used in the past. Just remember, when we started out with modeling, it was all alien to us to some degree and we had to build up habits for how we worked. In most cases, the reason a particular piece of software feels intuitive is because we've used it for so long and built up muscle memory. Once we start building up muscle memory for Blender, it also becomes quite an intuitive program.

couldn't agree more. no harm in learning something new and sometimes a different workflow can be even better in the long run! :) Hence how skyline came about.
