Script editor Improvements

Script editor Improvements

Postby SolarPortal » 05 Sep 2020, 18:00

We have found that the Skyline Script Editor has some flaws that impede workflow, so we are going to improve this somewhat.
However, the main important thing we are working on at the moment is making the script editor separate from the main engine editor so if(!?when!?) skyline crashes, it doesn't take the scripts you are working on and the editor down with it which we feel will improve the usage of it.

Shouldn't that read, "... so IF skyline crashes ..." :P

Great to see an update. This sounds great!

glad to hear and happy to see you back m8 :)

Edit: The script editor is up and running as a stand alone application including working with microscripts and scene scripts which have no actual file. This was quite difficult as i had to get a messaging system working between both applications without touching drive space. but this has been pulled off and am now in the process of improving the editor for features like workspaces, split screen editing, replacing the MDI windows with a simpler tab widget in favour of custom tabs, context menus, tab colouring and data information like source locations. Plus lots more as we want the script editor to be usable enough that you dont have to use a third party tool like vs code, atom or visual studio, so we are implementing many key features that these had to improve the usability of the editor when programming with skyline.

This is some great news, sounds like something I will enjoy using.

Make sure that eco editor leaves us with dropped jaw. ;)

Great to hear from you guys though. This means none of lifes little things
to distract (weather working on Skyline or just nothing at all).

Stay safe all

just upgraded the script editor find and replace again to include a full find and replace in all folders with case matching and whole word operations, we now have lexer for hlsl and glsl files too.
Couple lexer mods needed for lua to make it even more awesome and finally back to the shader upgrades of the engine again.

Oh and it has a new icon for the exe and you can open any file with the open with on windows explorer so if you want to use it as a replacement over notepad++ or another script editor you can.
