It's always exciting to see screen shots of Skyline's progress. The shot does look promising. However, the bright yellow and dark blacks look out of place against the duller colors of the terrain. It makes it look like the mesh is rendered differently than the terrain ... as if the mesh were more vibrant than everything else around it, causing it to pop out and stand out more. But I am guessing this is more the result of the colors and brightness of the mesh than anything else. The shadow it's casting is really nice, too.

happy to share progress :D

The yellow and black squares have their material brightness pushed above the default so they stand out across the level. We use this as a human reference scale when blocking out a level.

You can see them in this block out image.

add in some simple edging proxy models

Use the terrain to replace the blocks

At this stage I am using a minimal amount of models to fill out the level and will keep doing this only adding new model that are necessary eg the stairs. Basically still blocking out but with something more game related. This way I can experiment with scale and feel before getting into the final modeling and textureing stage.

Nice! Makes sense, too. You'd need those to stand out from a distance.

Here is a little bit more of the level so far. Replaced most of the blocks for low polly, non textureed proxies.
