6.8 Testing

6.8 Testing

Postby iamcheeseontoast » 27 Sep 2013, 21:35

I've sent you an email with some initial tests but here's some more including some bugs

Material Editor
After changing the diffuse tint. Select next material and tint changes to next colour but numbers remain from first one.
Additional - Diffuse Tint default = 149. Wouldnt 128 be better at its in the middle, 0 - 255.

Preset Editor
Whenever you initially open preset editor ALL folders are open by default. ARGH
Additional - only project files should show unless requested.

You can still have 2 presets with same name. Please only one. Ideally you should be able to update a preset with any additional work and it should auto save unless you give it a new name.

CTD - I saved a preset to a new preset libary. But when I restarted etc and tried to bring the item into scene CTD.
Preset has a physics proxy and an lod1.

Did some more testing regarding Preset Editor and presets etc

Preset Editor Part 2
Definately having some weird issues with preset editor. Tried it again today and still get a CTD.
Next I imported the model again but saved it to presets in its basic form. Renamed it to Croft_Main_01
Repeated the above but reversed model 180deg, saved as Croft_Main_02
Repeated and added physics proxy - saved as Croft_Main_03
Repeaetd and added lod system - saved as croft_main_04
Repeated and added model to lod system - saved as croft main 05
Tried to load each preset into engine begining with 01 and it worked. All the way to 05. (one at a time)

Restart skyline
1 CTD when I try to use the full one (05)
2 when i load 02 then 03 then 04 then 05 it works. And keeps on working, ie delete model then re-add 05 to scene.

Restart Skyline
1 Add 02, 03 ,04 to scene and save.
2 add 05 and CTD

Restart Skyline
1 Create basic scene with terrain etc.
2 Import model to directly to scene (No preset editor use)
3 Copy model and rename to croft_main_02. Add Physics. Save scene
4 Copy 02 and rename to 03. Add lod. Save scene
5 Copy 03 and rename to 04. Attempt to add the lod1 model to LOD system and CTD

thanks for the extensive report :D
i will run through a few things and see why it crashes.

i have noticed the preset manager is needing work, as other things such as the thumbnail images don't stay when the library is loaded back.

will keep you posted :)

Q> Can you try without using the LOD System?
Note: LODS are still under development, and the system will probably change on how they are setup. we are thinking of making an editor, rather than using the action.

I can tell you there appears to be no problems until you add the lod system into the mix.

I still think a proper preset editor window where you can work is a must. Once saved in this editor it updates any outside or in scene.
You could use the current obsolete window.

I also suggest grey out or remove anything that isn't 100%..

i could, but its design will need a serious tweak.

i will have a look at what we can grey out, so people don't have problems. :)

Tried adding the FPS and then the other player '3rdperson' to my test scene but having various issues from CTD and character movements not right etc.

Nothing seems obviously wrong but its doesn't just work the way it should, if you get my drift.

yes, there is an intermittent fault with the character controllers. this is where the character moves to the side instead of forward or the controller falls through or gets stuck in the floor. It is an issue we are trying to solve.

If it isn't the problem, could you show what is. :)
