Hey Skyline Developers,

With all the major changes happening right now within skyline which i must say are pretty cool, the main release is still a few weeks away due to testing and the new visual mechanics editor is taking a little longer to get ready, but we would prefer to release a good working version that is as close to being a polished first version as possible.

We have also heard you all about wanting a new update which we cannot provide at this time through the auto update service due to another job needing done for the next version which will change the way we handle patched versions. So we have decided to release an optional patch which is essentially an V0.9.7 Preview but is still V0.9.6 so when the real V0.9.7 is released, your updater will work the same.

Here is the download:


The file provided is only the "Skyline Editor.exe" and if you need a player or game build, then please PM me and i will compile and send it your way.

Instructions:
> Please backup your current "Skyline Editor.exe" in your "Win32_Release" folder.
> Download and extract the new "Skyline Editor.exe" in your "Win32_Release" folder.
> Load skyline.

Information on the Build:
> We have removed the Visual Mechanics editor as we want to surprise you all in the release
> There are no player or game builds.
> Not all the jobs are done, but we deem this version stable for releasing to the public.
> OVer the past weeks, we have talked about many subjects in the blog for the next release and you will find most of them in this build as well as many bug fixes such as navmesh, attaching crashes, animation, editor plugin improvements and much more..
> No changelog yet.

We hope there are not any major bugs now and that we have already fixed them and we will also not be providing the changelog as we want you all to work with the new version as if nothing has changed lol :P . If you encounter any strange effects you did not have happen before or you get crashes, then please send the details to us on the forum or to "support@aurasoft-skyline.co.uk".

Thanks again, and hopefully this will buy us the time to complete the next version officially :D

Edit: (Rare Bug) If your exe refuses to load and shows no crashes etc.. then try backup up your registry first and then remove the aurasoft folder from current_user/software. Then boot skyline and activate. If you experience a crash on activation, then try again and it should work :)

We all know your working hard and your still on the forums till silly o'clock, we appreciate your long hard work that your putting in and this is one of the things that make skyline a great product.. you're dedication and the dedication of all the members helping with the development of the product and related websites, docs, tutorials, just to mention just a few of the areas that are been worked on..

Has anyone tried the preview as it wont open for me :( I will go back to the backup.

just tested it again it just doesn't do anything no error and it isn't in the task manager ;)

Works on windows 8.1, just takes a few seconds to load up the splash screen.. :D

I tested on a fresh download of 0.9.0, upgraded to 0.9.6 and placed the patch in and it seems to be working fine for me as well. :) Tattie, we will have to work with you and find out why it doesn't work :)

i was running on windows 10, but that probably doesn't help much. There must be something wrong.
Download Dependency Walker x86 build from here:

Open the walker and drop the skyline editor.exe onto the application, it should show at least 3 errors or warnings.
Begin to profile the exe from the main menu and see which dll it gets too before it craps out.

If you could record a video at the same time that would be great :D

This might give us a clue as to whats happening.

Edit: Just checking win 10 for updates.
Edit2: I am apparently uptodate with windows updates so far.

When I played the skyline editor on windows 8.1 it came up with a windows is blocking the application because of a unknown signature (company or summat)...

I had to click run anyway for it to load for the first time, maybe its something like this? but not showing?

I always run with admin permissions as well so I don't know if that has anything to do with it?

:shock: I had a few updates one of them was graphic drivers and windows defender :lol: anyway here is the video it had 3 errors and 2 warnings

ah, you need to run a 32bit software in a 32bit dependency walker which is why those errors are there.

Edit: i am beginning to think that there is maybe a dependency issue such as microsofts visual c++ redists. Perhaps a service pack is not installed.

For some reason, wherever it is. Your computer is picking up a 64bit dll and attempting to load it into skyline. This will most likely be something within windows as we know the dlls in your skyline folder are working as you have been using them. This leads me to believe there is another error elsewhere.

You could try this: You could run "Skyline Editor.exe", wait for it too stop working and then go to the search, type in event and open the event viewer. In the left hand column, open "Windows logs" and click on Application.
At the top of the middle list, you should see Error with an exclamation mark. Click on the top one and see if it has anything to do with skyline. Then copy the error details from the bottom and post them here. Thanks :)

Edit: Did you install the 32bit and 64bit versions of visual studio redists:)

Ok, that helps a little bit.

The exception code registered is a known fault error "Exception code: 0xc0000005".
When searching on the web, this is what i find:

Can you try to remove all of skyline registry found under "current_user/Software/Aurasoft". Please backup your registry first and you will need to activate again if it works.

ok done that and the activation opens so I closed it and added the reg back in and it didn't load so I removed the reg again but this time I tried to register and it crashes lol

Also, i would have took all of your reg out and started fresh for the aurasoft folder. You wont lose anything apart from license info, some window positions and scales lol :P

we eventually solved tatties error and it required the registry to be cleaned and restart skyline.

thats looking good :)

Couple of navmesh tips:
> Place the characters as low to the ground as possible making sure they dont fall through, but it makes the navmesh find the starting position.
> If possible, orient the character in the first direction of travel. If you dont know which way it is going.
