I much prefer the online manual and then have a php script go through and convert the entire manual to a .pdf once a nightHaving the manual online is especially useful during the initial stages of development/re-development because as things change, you get the new versions live instead of refering something from a manual you downloaded a week prioir only to find that several items had been outdated, changed, or completely removed the previous day..
I think for a successful offline manual there would have to be considerable tech-writing work done for every release just prioir to release which would delay every release by the time it takes from when you say "this next release is done so we'll start on the next one" to however long it takes your technical writer to review and update the offline manual....
The underline issue is that dokuwiki allowed for malace users to gain access directly because it was designed by a group focused on making their wiki system as robust and versitle as possible. Contry to popular belief, sometimes simple is better
