Well all versions released will have commercial rights to sell any game that is made on them whereas the current lite version is non commercial. The new free versions to come will have reduced featuresets or certain plugins not provided that will have to be paid for like the current lite version. This is to make a model that we can earn from to continue the development. However pro and studio pro will still exist and all features will be given aswell as other plugins and tools to continue support for those that have supported so far.

The idea of the free version is that you can pay for the bits you want or need, but the base engine will be usable without purchases.

We also wont be taking a royalty or a pay cap on any of your earnings. What you earn stays yours with no need for audits or proof like other engines.

Are there any news about the skyline game engine? What pc performance will we need in the gen2?

Hi Zethael, Welcome!

This will be Generation 3. also known as V2.0 - Gen2 was already released in v1.0 and up and is still accessible through request as there is no support for the older version anymore

We are wanting to have skyline run on a minimum hardware of DX11 supporting GFX cards with at least 1gb of ram, but that is low in todays hardware. Recommended will be 4gb or more. We are developing with GTX 1060 6gb cards and 16gb of ddr3 ram

Any cpu that can run the cards will do.. obviously newer chips will always process more and the rendering is actually multithreaded so more cores could = more fps.. although i cant say for sure as we are running older i7 3770 and 4770 and havent had the opportunity to try the latest tech.

The newer features planned though may need more performance but these heavier features will be turnoffable.

As for news on the engine.. its going well. we have a few private testers using the new version even though there are some issues at the moment being worked on, things are going well.. just time consuming as we are only 2 devs

yes, this is true, when v2.0 is released to the public, the base version of skyline which used to be the non commerical lite version will be a fully commercial license attached to it. certain limitations may stay or require additional bits purchased from the asset store, but yes, it will be completely free with no licensing restrictions like earning certain amounts or royalties.. too much effort to deal with so it will be completely free!

However, the current lite version is still license limited as it is v1.0 skyline, wait for v2.0

the only thing you could not do would be to make a product that would directly compete with the main concepts of skyline.
It will be a full product tool set. Mechanics, addons, short cut tools etc official and third party would have to be purchased from the store.
A full paid product would provide all the offical paid for bells and whistles that would speed up development plus their updates. This way you would save money on having all goodies but others can have a free toolset and make these addons themselves or only purchase what they required, if they needed it.
