Roadmap: The future features of Skyline

Roadmap: The future features of Skyline

Postby StarFire » 10 Sep 2014, 15:52

We have had many requests to see the future features and when they will be available. To help answer this we have set up a roadmap of features and main upgrades, this will become more accurate as the day/weeks pass by and we get used to the new system. :geek:

heres a link to Skylines current roadmap: https://trello.com/b/pjbQYgTR/skyline-game-engine

Image

We are happy to increase the priorities of features if many user request this feature asap, until then we will add what we feel is currently required. Generally this is either that we need it for our own projects or its just a simply cool thing to do ;)

[Edit] We have added the ability for members to vote on the task, tasks with the most votes will be given higher priorities.

Obviously there are many thing we do when developing that do not get entered in the roadmap such as bug, crashes, demos and some new ideas that suddenly fall into place.

If there is a feature missing please let us know and we will look at adding it.

Hope this helps you to keep track of Skylines Future :D

Hi Guys,

Nice work ;)

Is there any way to sign up so I can get emails when it's updated??

My only plea wrt new features is to get Networking up and running

I think you have to sign up to trello, then in the side menu of the skyline board, you should see a subscribe. There is also a subscribe for each card(item in the lists).

Networking is being developed, but will most likely go in after the release.

Are you meaning an export output to UDK and Unity. If so, that probably won't happen
If you are meaning an importer for files like FBX(Unity) or FBX(UE4), then this is being developed :D
Perhaps a better explanation is needed to put your point across.

@serverName: we were previously using OgreMax and Easy Ogre Exporter for exporting from 3dsmax.
There are even documents written on this found here: http://www.chi-ad.com/DokuWiki/doku.php/english_manual:exporters_package_exporters and http://www.chi-ad.com/DokuWiki/doku.php/english_manual:exporters_3dsmax_introduction

We are currently developing the FBX Pipeline so any asset can be exported from most modelling packages and creation tools.

@antON: yes we have a few game IP's which was initially the reason for developing Skyline ;)

These games will be slowly developed in conjunction with the engine development, one pushes the other. This way we can always test the usability of the added features but a lot of Skylines design is due to us not having enough time for the art and mechanics side so we needed a system where one mechanic can be developed and then be re-used in other projects and that it was quick to create an artistic scene without getting lost in technical difficulties. :D

This is cool. I like this. I signed up and now can see what is being developed.

I would like to vote for 3D stereoscopic output for a future feature of Skyline. I'm mainly looking to output in the side by side 3D stereoscopic mode 'cos I have a sony playstation 3D display I recently bought on sale and it outputs the side by side sterescopic 3D. This 3D display is awesome ! Images are sticking out of the screen and it is like looking through a real life window !

A similar thing is going to be required for oculus rift support.

Now more and more people (especially developers) are switching to Linux, so I would like to know your plans.
How much Skyline Engine depends on Windows? Is there any chance that it ever will work on Linux?

Skyline is currently a windows only tool set but could be ported. This would only happen if we can get some budget from sales of Skyline as the export platforms are currently more important.

We have added it to the road map for now. :)

Unity3D was originally on the mac, so it probably could be ported to Linux, i think they don't see the market as large enough to warrant the extra work. :P

Edit: Here is an interesting page on the shares of Desktop OS's and mobile OS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems

Even though it only has a single vote, it is a priority feature that we will be implementing asap. But there are plenty of things to go in before it which are just as important. :)

Overall, with enough time; we will feature as many things as possible. :D
