wow, looking great m8 :) It certainly does look like you are developing more now than suffering with assets.
Make sure to have backups lol :P

I feel this will certainly be apart of the showreel for the greenlight campaign.

Q) Will you be changing the terrain textures from the defaults?

Tip: Don't know if you have seen this yet, but the terrain system also has the ability to paint colours over the top of textures using the colourmap editing which allows you to change alter the look of the area e.g. darker grass or add a bit of brown etc...

This site has some good textures: http://www.cgtextures.com/ & http://www.allcgtextures.com/main.php, there are many good site out there.

Try some searches like:
  • free textures
  • free tiling textures
  • game textures
etc...

gave a run and the following:

1. Massive frame rate bottlenecks when looking at Island, 60 FPS looking away, down to 16 at some spots looking toward
2. Lots of Alpha faults stopping water from being visible
3. On first run, doesn't hold mouse to screen (dual Monitors), after clicking back into game was ok
4. Need an easy way to limit player climb angle as could walk up all slopes

that was it for the quick run, nice layout and natural feeling, blunt short post due to time constraints but good work hood, just needs little polishing now

yes, it ran fine for me too. it did slow down a bit, but was still able to move around and shoot etc...
Possibly due to mesh physics on all trees :) We are planning a compound shapes editor soon.

Maybe some lods will help and cull certain trees at some distances (not all, so it looks like there are trees over there),
but the lods will probably do it.

The alpha and ocean issue is a shader error in the engine which we will try and get fixed, so don't worry about that.
Actually, i am quite surprised the export process worked that well.

Good job overall! :D With some polishing, it will be a great area to roam.
The ocean is a big framerate drop though in any scene, this can be sped up by reducing the complexity property.

There are many performance tweaks that can be made, and when you have a game ready, then we will happily help you optimize it :)

i haven't done the lod step with trees yet, however i do have 2 or 3 lod stages for them all so that is something to look into i think. when i have the models i will be adding more to the map, but only shrubs and food like plants for gathering and surviving lol. don't want to give to much away about it yet though so will leave it there. thanks au/sp for the run through much appreciated! :) glad the standalone works

Just ran it for StarFire and she is impressed as well, i also found the boxes around one of the coves which i didn't see the first time. it looked really good.

Again Well done! :) lol, we are all so used to using skyline, but none of us have gave out an exported game yet.
But you have, so gold star m8. Remember that ;)

LA1, you are the first Skyliner to post a player version of a scene, top of the class m8 :D

yeah Sp played to for me and it all went smothly, as for any low frame rates we will be focusing on that area once this current phase is completed. The idea for Skyline is if you can put it in; Skyline will run it. Its going to take a little magic but we are aware that new commers to game dev dont know all the little tricks that make games run performance friendly. In time we will make Skyline add these tricks for you, as if by magic. ;)

thats cool :) These types of projects do take a long time even if you have every moment of each day. So no worries, its a while off before we create this video for greenlight and i am sure you will have something cool soon :)
