Skyline Release V0.9.7.2 - Pandora

Hey everyone,

As Requested, we have released a new auto update that will upgrade you from your current V0.9.7 Release 1 up to Release 2 featuring even more cool things as well as some major bug fixes found from the last release.


Update is now ACTIVE!

You will need to download this batch file and run it after using the auto update to download the update as 0.9.7.1 had an error in the batch file creation in code which needed a simple set of quotes around the path structure. This is due to changing "Aurasoft" folders to "Aurasoft UK" folders.

Instructions:
> Run Skyline and allow the auto update to run as normal. This will download the necessary file upgrades and extract them for you, but will go no further.
> Next download this batch file and run it. This will finish the auto update and keep it as easy as possible for you.

> Run skyline if it is not running already and check the version number is V0.9.7.2 on the About page.

Another note: If you installed the full commercial version of skyline from the new installer, then you may have a couple of environment variable issues.

Please check that these varaibles match these paths on your skyline installation:
SKYLINE_SDK = C:\Aurasoft UK\Skyline\
SKYLINE_SDK_BIN = C:\Aurasoft UK\Skyline\Skyline\Win32_Release
or if on a 64bit OS:
SKYLINE_SDK_BIN = C:\Aurasoft UK\Skyline\Skyline\Win64_Release

Edit the path to match your skyline installation. If you are in doubt on how to do it, then we have released a new installer online that is now fixed.

Note: If you are upgrading from V0.9.6 or less, then it may not work any longer and you will require to download the full installer as we gave a passing point for users who were active all the time.

Ouch...I just updated...still says .9.7.1 but no longer plays game in editor or player...just black screen and sound...

Edit: Update pulled for 30 mins or so :) If you have updated already then go to "Appdata/Roaming/Aurasoft UK/SkylineSDK/runUpdates.bat" as there seems to be a problem with the batch file being ran :) Working on it now.

yes, i apologize deeply, it appears it has a problem kickstarting the batch file, so i am looking into it.
Upgrades to the update system usually show these problems on first time use and has happened a few times before in the past as some of our users will know lol :P Hence still Beta :)

I have ran into a problem with lighting...when playing Tunnels of Tarkus in Editor, I get darker areas in the level where the spotlight does not show any light....Then in other areas it shines perfect...When playing in player it all works great....

Great job fixing the attach...It is working in both editor and player...

Did you change something with lighting in the editor?...

We do have planned to upgrade the lights so we all can have cool indoor lighting, I know this is needed by many ;)

As for there being a discrepancy between lit areas in the editor/player off the top of our heads we don't know. There should not be any difference as the player uses the same shaders as the editor, strange.
If there is any more info, video to demo the issue that would be a great help. Also do you get the same issue in a smaller test scene? Thanks

Here is a video of how the spotlight shines more in some areas than in others...This just happens in editor...In Player everything is ok....



[EDIT]...This problem seems to have worked itself out....Not sure if I did anything to fix it or if it just went away on it's own...I left video up in case someone else has the same problem...Thanks

[EDIT]...The Problem is back...

[EDIT]...I was able to get the problem under control by setting the ambient light to "1. IBAL with ambient normals" in render settings...I had this set to "4. basic ambient"...

ahh, right. Good to know, i will recreate it tomorrow :)
It was simply referencing the windows environment variable %APPDATA%.

Q) Did you download the update as normal using skyline before running the batch?

Edit: Just checked on this and %appdata% is supposed to take you to the roaming folder, the batch file was using it in caps though, so i have made it lower case. Perhaps this will work :)

The weekend was a bit full, saturday, we decided to play fallout 4 a bit more and rest and yesterday we went to a remembrance service for those who we have lost and those who suffer from road traffic accidents. Very sad and brings a lot of
emotion to the surface but it creates a lot of energy, but we are back now and ready to finish up this update for you. :D

We will be merging our code together later today and will then focus on getting a release out to you all, then we can start looking at other bits. :)

Thank you for all your hard work.

I know how you feel I lost my step sister in a rta a good few years a go, when you loose someone close to you like that just remember the good times and the person they where and there character, you will never forget and they will always be in your heart... forever..

It is good to remember shows you are human and it helps with dealing with the situation and heart ache, saying that it's always good to have a distraction in your case skyline. ..

Just remember to have personal time and time away from the project at times or you will burn yourselves out and that's not good for anyone..

My heart is with you as someone who lost someone close to me in a rta...

Sorry for any spelling mistakes bloody phones predictive text gets me everytime

thanks for the very kind words and comfort liam and our heart is with you as well. It is a tough thing to deal with and still only being around the 6 month point takes its toll a lot of us.

Skyline is indeed a good escape platform as it can take over the brain like a virus distracting from thoughts, some days it doesn't work as well though, but finding time in between is what we are really trying to do to regain our lives again instead of losing it too work etc...

But having a passion for skyline and not wanting to give up is a big drive to keep moving....

Totally understand the phone's autocorrect. Mine is consistently putting the wrong words in.
