adding entities crashes engine

adding entities crashes engine

Postby lordalmighty1 » 31 Jan 2015, 15:30

for a good while I have been testing this problem today.
when I add any entity to the scene it crashes the engine :(
I have recorded a vid that hopefully will show this happening, if you need a log report let me know.

thank for the video.

I noticed this is all with the terrain. Do you have the same crash with the default new scene and not adding a terrain?

I can check and see, seems to be any entity I pick so far. brb with an update to your question

ok so quick test with a default asset, with default start up terrain yields the same results :(
the models all worked fine the other day, but today they don't.. all I have done that I can remember yesterday was playt about with the pu software and try some of that in engine to no avail lol.

This is very strange?? This is a new one

a couple of things to try.

1. try dragging the asset from explorer and see if that has the same response.

2.Recreate the resources. In the asset manager and on its main menu select <Resources / recreate main resource list>, then reboot the engine.

with option 2, did you reboot the skyline?

Option 1 is simply, open windows explorer, find a file and drag to the scene.

Have you tried rebooting your computer, just in case something is clogged?

i think there is one more option, and this could be due to installing particle universe, which is when your problems started i believe. I think it creates an environment variable in the %PATH% variable. Which is a system root path,
in their software they also use a similar dll.

To see if this is the problem, simply go to where you installed particle universe and put an underscore at the start of the folder name. e.g. if you installed to "C:\Program Files(x86)\Particle Universe", then name it as "C:\Program Files(x86)\_Particle Universe".

Hopefully this will give us a clue to the problem.

omg! This is so unusual?

First time we have had this problem.
If PU is uninstalled you could try re-installing Skyline.

btw: did you try the same test without the terrain? (new scene)

lots of little tests, with the default and custom terrains.
I will reinstall skyline I guess later when this is hopefully fixed for an update or whatever might happen to resolve it.

Sorry that you are having a problem, both of us are now invested in resolving your issue.

Idea: could you try loading the model from the scene RMB <Model/Import Model> does this work?

The fact you have a ground plane in the scene shows Skyline core is working but something is a miss with dragging?

@Tatty good idea :)

Thanks next to try:

We need to see if the core data library is in tacked. if you could try to load an asset from the data folder. Use scene RMB model import as before.

oh.. sorry, I have already reinstalled using the installer to repair the files and dll's.
didn't see this post about the core test :( my bad.
so what I did was goto the installer reinstall skyline without the assets library and tested a model on a default start up terrain.
this fixed the issue but probably hasn't helped you solve it :S

thanks for the help :)

ah so happy
you are up and running again. It would be nice to know what caused it but at least we know a re-install fixes it :D
